Emprunter l\u2019escalator \u00e0 l\u2019arr\u00eat. Faire quelques pas. Monter les marches qui m\u00e8nent aux contr\u00f4les des billets. S\u2019avancer. S\u2019arr\u00eater devant diff\u00e9rentes vol\u00e9es d\u2019escaliers. Vers lesquelles se diriger\u00a0? Trouver. Les arpenter. Ne pas savoir o\u00f9 l\u2019on est. Se laisser guider vers son objectif. En face\u00a0: une verri\u00e8re. \u00c0 droite ou \u00e0 gauche\u00a0?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sur la droite, une imposante statue domine \u00e0 elle seule trois immenses pi\u00e8ces. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00ab\u00a0Vous ne pourrez pas la louper.\u00a0\u00bb<\/span><\/i> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La Victoire de Samothrace<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0! La lumi\u00e8re s\u2019\u00e9coule en cascade sur ce corps qui embrasse l\u2019espace. Nik\u00ea (d\u00e9esse de la victoire) amput\u00e9e brave le vent sur la poupe d\u2019un navire avec distinction et d\u00e9termination. Si puissamment enracin\u00e9e, elle semble pourtant sur le point d\u2019effleurer une derni\u00e8re fois son socle pour s\u2019envoler. Ces \u0153uvres appellent le grand air, leurs falaises r\u00e9clament un vent furieux. Je ne suis pas devant l\u2019\u0153uvre d\u2019un contemporain mais devant le plus archa\u00efque des peintres. L\u2019id\u00e9e n\u2019\u00e9tait pourtant pas venue \u00e0 mes doigts de pianoter \u00ab\u00a0Soulages peintures\u00a0\u00bb ou \u00ab\u00a0Pierre Soulages toiles\u00a0\u00bb sur mon Smartphone\u00a0avant de me retrouver devant la pyramide de verre. Si je m\u2019\u00e9tais tenue \u00e0 la seule exp\u00e9rience de la Toile, peut-\u00eatre aurais-je investi mon temps autrement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Me voil\u00e0 tout en haut de l\u2019escalier, salle 703. Je vois l\u2019affiche \u2014 o\u00f9 \u00e9tais-ce un <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">kakemono\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">? \u2014 de l\u2019exposition et aussit\u00f4t <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La Victoire de Samothrace<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0s\u2019\u00e9vanouit. Mon pas ralentit. Je me fige. Comme dans ces films o\u00f9 le h\u00e9ros s\u2019appr\u00eate \u00e0 prendre <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">la<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> d\u00e9cision. La cam\u00e9ra est braqu\u00e9e sur ma face grave, dans l\u2019attente du geste.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Je m\u2019\u00e9lance dans la salle d\u2019exposition et me plante en plein milieu pour en saisir les contours, en prendre le pouls. Une petite pi\u00e8ce\u00a0; moins d\u2019une vingtaine de toiles. Noires. Toutes noires. Ma crainte, pensais-je alors, \u00e9tait fond\u00e9\u00a0: Soulages, \u00ab\u00a0le peintre du noir\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0le peintre de l\u2019outrenoir\u00a0\u00bb. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Peintre archa\u00efque<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0: vraiment\u00a0? Peintre tout ce qu\u2019il y a de plus contemporain\u00a0! me dis-je vulgairement, un brin d\u00e9\u00e7ue.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;\">Puisque je suis ici, autant jouer le jeu\u00a0: rester camp\u00e9e devant une toile pendant plusieurs minutes, croiser les bras et froncer les sourcils d\u2019un air expert, en attendant l\u2019illumination, \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re de ce monsieur \u00e0\u00a0ma gauche.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Toutes noires\u00a0? Ah\u00a0! Non\u00a0: sur certaines, le blanc tranche avec un noir rehauss\u00e9 de tons fonc\u00e9s. Commen\u00e7ons par l\u00e0. Larges bandes noires, p\u00e2t\u00e9s, d\u00e9goulis. Une r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 propos s\u2019impose \u00e0 moi. Je me crois un instant dans la peau de Driss, le personnage jou\u00e9 par Omar Sy dans le film <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Intouchable<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00ab\u00a0C\u2019est touchant, des t\u00e2ches rouges sur un fond blanc\u00a0? Focus scl\u00e9rotique \u2014 mon cristallin se r\u00e9tracte , ma pupille se dilate : je suis sinc\u00e8rement int\u00e9ress\u00e9e !<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 24pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vx3OTZ35e80\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Noir, c\u2019est noir\u00a0: plus d\u2019espoir\u00a0?<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;\">Distance approximative d\u2019une des premi\u00e8res toiles\u00a0: un peu moins de deux m\u00e8tres. Je hausse les sourcils\u00a0; mes yeux s\u2019\u00e9carquillent. Un reflet\u00a0! R\u00e9sultat d\u2019un manque d\u2019attention pendant l\u2019installation des \u0153uvres ?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;\">Je pars \u00e0 la rencontre d\u2019un autre tableau, de facture similaire. Je v\u00e9rifie mes prises en les passant rapidement en revue. Cette prise de risque commune aux photographes itin\u00e9rants renforce l\u2019intuition que j\u2019avais eue en d\u00e9couvrant la s\u00e9rie de tableaux \u00e0 l\u2019entr\u00e9e de la salle d\u2019exposition : Soulages ne serait-il pas davantage le peintre de la lumi\u00e8re que celui de l\u2019obscurit\u00e9\u00a0? La distance qui s\u00e9pare mes clich\u00e9s est d\u00e9risoire. Cela a n\u00e9anmoins suffi pour relever la palette de lumi\u00e8re avec laquelle Soulage joue en n\u00e9gatif.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;\">Je me penche sur la notice qui accompagne le d\u00e9tail du polyptyque que je viens de photographier.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00ab\u00a0Ces peintures ont d\u2019abord \u00e9t\u00e9 appel\u00e9es <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Noir-Lumi\u00e8re<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, d\u00e9signant ainsi une lumi\u00e8re ins\u00e9parable du noir qui la refl\u00e8te. Je me repr\u00e9sente les temps \u2018\u2019archa\u00efques\u2019\u2019 comme tout noirs. Nos a\u00efeuls, formes primaires d\u2019hommes et de femmes, dans leurs cavernes plong\u00e9es dans\u00a0l\u2019obscurit\u00e9. \u00c0 chercher la lumi\u00e8re. \u00c0 la provoquer\u00a0: \u00e9tincelles, feu, bougies, ampoules, lampadaires. La lumi\u00e8re qui inter-vient par surprise, au moment o\u00f9 peut-\u00eatre nous nous y attendions le moins. Elle finit par interc\u00e9der. Pour d\u2019autres, elle se fait encore attendre. Et pourtant, elle est l\u00e0, pr\u00eate \u00e0 recouvrir d\u2019argent ce noir qui nous charbonne le c\u0153ur. Pers\u00e9v\u00e9rer dans cette attente active de l\u2019<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00ab\u00a0au-del\u00e0 du noir\u00a0\u00bb<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, c\u2019est en \u00e7a que peuvent nous \u00e9clairer les tableaux de Soulages.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Peindre la nuit. La nuit que dans chaque vie d\u2019homme on traverse une fois. Au moins. La nuit noire, dense, \u00e9paisse, dure. Qui dure. La nuit dont on ne sort pas. Le jour ne compte pas\u00a0: il p\u00e8se. Du bleu au-dessus de la t\u00eate\u00a0; du noir quand m\u00eame. La nuit sans Lune et sans \u00e9toiles. La Lune et les \u00e9toiles sont bien l\u00e0. Bien, l\u00e0. C\u2019est toi qui n\u2019y es pas. Tu es loin, trop loin pour les voir, pour voir qu\u2019elles brillent, pour ne voir que \u00e7a. Pas elles\u00a0: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00e7a<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, que \u00e7a brille. La lumi\u00e8re.<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;\">Tu es encore loin quand tu vois un polyptique de Soulages. Son noir sort de toi. Il se fait miroir de ton ciel. Ce noir refl\u00e8te mieux\u00a0: pas d\u2019\u00e9toiles sur la peinture. La peinture est aussi morne que toi\u00a0; morte que toi.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;\">Tu t\u2019approches. Pas si morte\u00a0: pleine des entailles et des crevasses laiss\u00e9es par le pinceau de la vie\u00a0; de ta vie. \u00c7a grouille dans les nervures de la peinture, dans tes veines. De bien trop loin, tu n\u2019y voyais rien.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;\">Regarde. Noir\u00a0: monolithe. Il s\u2019impose. Laisse place. Accueille. Approche. Viens et tu verras. Vois\u00a0: cette lumi\u00e8re qui n\u2019attendait que toi pour \u00eatre vue de toi. Elle se propose. Ne plus voir qu\u2019elle. Qu\u2019elle inonde le noir au-dessous.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;\">Dans le monde il n\u2019est pas de noir absolu. Dans le tien il ne l\u2019est plus.
